Panoramic view of the outdoor kitchen before we started. |
This is the kitchen we started with. |
Fortunately, we found enough good wood we could use to make the cabinet door frames. We used a biscuit joiner to strengthen the union joints. |
It was a really slow process because we only had access to two clamps so we could only do one doorframe at a time. |
Dan did the routing for the frames. |
Thanks to the help of many classmates collecting bamboo, we had enough bamboo to start the door designs. |
Allan and I completed this frame together and it took us almost an hour! |
Allison (sorry if I got your name wrong!) came up with the great idea to use black bamboo. |
Here she is completing her frame. |
Here we see everyone hard at work! |
Dan designed the locks for each cabinet and I made the doorknobs using the bamboo nodes. |
The back and sides of the cabinets were made out of whole pieces of bamboo. |
We decided by consensus that each door would have a different design pattern. |

I included a frame above the sink to hang pots to dry; I made this also out of bamboo. |
Before we installed the doors, we redid the floor with reused bricks and made sure it was all leveled. Thanks to everyone who helped to get this kitchen done!! |
