Lightweight Trailer / Camper Precedent Studies

These are two examples of small, semi-streamlined trailers that fit on a single-axle 3500lb rated trailer bed and can be towed by a 4-cylinder car.

This is a 70 square foot tiny house made by Green Mountain College students as part of Lucas Brown’s Renewable Energy and Ecological Design (REED) class in Vermont. In addition to the streamlined design, the visible ribbing/skeleton and aesthetically pleasing glass-work supply useful design suggestions. It includes a sleeping area, rainwater collection, and 120-watt solar powered electrical system, and was built using reclaimed materials as often as possible.

This is the Sealander, a commercially available German-made boat/caravan (12.8ft long base, 11.7ft long cabin, 5.5ft wide, 6ft high, 882 lbs unloaded, 1212 lbs maximum loaded). Although not built out of natural materials, the compact, streamlined framework and open air structure seem ideally suited for reclaimed wood, adobe, reclaimed windows and being taken on the road.
